Abstract
Ocean microstructure profiles were collected during the International Polar Year, between 18 and 25 April 2008, from the Barneo ice camp in the Amundsen Basin at approximately 88°N. The data set includes 172 profiles of 1-m vertically averaged dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy, in situ temperature (ITS-90 scale), and salinity (practical salinity scale). The last three profiles are from the Lomonosov Ridge, near 89°N. Profiles were collected using the microstructure profiler MSS90L from ISW Wassermesstechnik (Germany) and a motorized winch, through a hole in drifting 2-m thick pack ice. The dissipation rate estimate is the average from two airfoil shear probes. The temperature and salinity profiles are measured by precision sensors on the same instrument.
