Abstract
Broad banded echosounders are being used by the plankton and fisheries acoustics community to assess distribution, abundance and behaviour of fish and larger zooplankton. Multiple calibrated echosounders can be combined to provide the frequency signature across a wide frequency spectrum. These echosounders have been used on a range of different use cases. Platforms carrying these sensors include hull mounted echosounder on research vessels, towed bodies, uncrewed platforms, stationary observations, net pen observations, etc. Here we have compiled several example data sets from the Simrad EK80 system where broadband echosounders have been deployed covering a wide range of uses. The acoustic targets include fish, with and without swim bladder, larger zooplankton, and calibration spheres.
